We were very blessed to go on another family vacation with Steve's parents at the Outer Banks. We almost didn't make it though...our car broke down on the way down in Virginia with 5 more hours to go. We were trying to decide what to do. All the rent-a-car places were closed so we were thinking about staying at a hotel for a couple days, getting the car fixed and heading home. But Steve's Dad (Poppy) had other plans. When he heard that we were stranded he immediately got up, grabbed his keys and headed out the door to rescue us...We will never forget his love for us in doing this. He drove 5 hours while we hung out at a McDonald's. I think we are all tired of McDonald's but very thankful they had a play land. He came and picked us up and drove us back down to the Outer Banks. God really went ahead of us and we ran into the friendliest people and felt His care all night.
Besides being very tired that first day, we all had a grand time. Nathan especially had so much fun. He loved the ocean from the first moment he laid eyes on it. The words out of his mouth when he climbed up the stairs and looked down at the big expanse were "Thank you Jesus!" Here's a picture of him ready to charge with his shovel. He loved jumping the waves and digging in the sand and trying to figure out how to ride a surf board. Lydia on the other hand was not to sure about it..she was pretty afraid of the waves the first day but warmed up to the sand and water by the final day.
It was quite a bit different going to the beach with two kids who need constant attention, but thankfully we had many hands to help. I loved watching Nathan enjoy his extended family, both Nathan and Lydia fell in love with their cousin Sammy. It was also different having a little one who still needs two naps a day, I was thankful there was a pool at the house:) Some other highlights of our vacation: Watching Steve relax and enjoy flying his kites, ghost crabbing, thunderstorms, Nathan go-carting with Daddy, Nathan sharing snacks with Aunt Amy, bike rides, feeding turtles, coffee date with my Honey and of course Grammy's peaches and Poppy's waffles. Thank you Poppy and Grammy for such a wonderful time and the many precious memories we are taking with us. We all love you both dearly!

Marie,
What a way to start your vacation! So glad that Steve's dad came to the rescue and that you got to go enjoy the beach as planned. I think my favorite part of your post (aside from the pictures) was Nathan's reaction to the beach - "thank you Jesus"! Not only is it too cute for words, but it also speaks of how well you are parenting him. You and Steve are doing such a great job of demonstrating gratefulness to the Lord, that it is now flowing out of your little boy. Thank you for your example!!
Lisa
I love the 'cutie pics' at the end. And Lisa's comments on Nathan saying "Thank you Jesus" is right on the money - you GO Nathan!!! And can I add a great big "THANK YOU POPPY!!!" for his help! What a blessing you both have in Steve's parents. Mom and I are so blessed to know that you not only rest in your Father's hands, but you also have other loving hands to help keep you safe and warm!!! We're so looking forward to coming out there in a couple weeks! Love you all - so much!
What a wonderful post. Great pictures! I am so glad you had a good time. We once had a similar vacation car breakdown. We were enroute to North Carolina and had to stay overnight in a hotel while our car got fixed. It was a fun, and memorable little detour! What a fun family vacation. And that is so cute what Nathan said about the ocean! Glad Lydia warmed up over the week too.
I LOVE the family pic at the beginning of your post! Beautiful:o)
Glad you guys had a nice, adventurous, and relaxing vacation all at once!!
